WAYNE S. REPICH
WHAT I’VE BEEN UP TO:
I learned about the strength you can get from a strong family. I learned to keep going, even in bad times. I learned not to despair, even when my world was falling apart. I learned that there are no free lunches. And I learned about the value of hard work. In the end, you’ve got to be productive; that’s what made this country great –– and that’s what’s going to make us great again. ––– Lee Iacocca
INTRODUCTION: Whether running a $2-billion publicly traded corporation, or operating one of the four real estate and mortgage companies I’ve launched, I thrive on the challenge of turning a vision, an idea, a dream, into a tangible, profitable and highly visible reality.
I am a builder ––– a builder of teams, opportunities and businesses. I have excelled at just about everything I’ve done, rising to the pinnacle of whatever activity captures my attention, typically on a very fast track. Being ‘along for the ride’ doesn’t interest me; rather, that specific, tangible thing we call t-h-e g-o-a-l is my overriding destination.
SUMMATION: I’ve been an entrepreneur most of my life ––– and yet, at the same time, I’ve worked in partnership with more people, been the leader in more diverse situations, than anybody I know. What this says about me is that I thrive on challenges, and ‘insurmountable problems’. I truly disdain predictability and caution, without just cause. I am a master at networking and building relationships – I can get through to anyone. I love the intangible element of surprise and cannot imagine being spontaneous, or innovative, without it. Holding this thought, I also maintain a strong belief that opportunity is something we must consciously create. It may indeed come knocking ––– but it’s up to us to provide a big door.
Think like a wise man, but communicate in the language of the people. ––– William Butler Yeats

LIFE AFFIRMING EXPERIENCES: Made my debut on August 29th, 1961 in Hackensack, New Jersey. Grew up in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut before heading to California for college. Passions and interests I cannot live without include theatre and film festivals, reading, art and cultural events, writing lyrics, Foundation Maeght, spontaneous travel, intelligent conversation, NYTimes, practicing tolerance, encouraging diversity, reading, successful ventures, reaching potentials, drum & bugle corps, (did I mention reading?) studying the Tao, learning more about Urbanism, investing, collecting rare books and art, and exploring new challenges. I've also cycled in ultra-cycling events, and have rode in numerous centuries, double centuries, etc.
Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read. ––– Groucho Marx
READING HABITS: It might be bit of an understatement to call myself a voracious reader. Had I invested in Berkshire Hathaway stock what I invest in my library, I’d be a very wealthy man. I have historically read 5 newspapers a day (NYTimes, WSJ, IBD, Barrons and local), and 20 business and trade periodicals a month. Typically I read 40 to 50 books a year. These are some of the books which have most impacted my life.
The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz
My “Think and Grow Rich.”
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
A classic read.
Moments of Truth by Jan Carlzon
So simple a concept ––– it defines a ‘tipping point’ in sales.
The Pursuit of WOW, and Re-imagine! by Tom Peters
Still reminds me to think of things simplistically, and how small things can be remarkable in their success.
Born Free and Equal by Ansel Adams
Confiscated and burned by the Army, a dark time for us and the US… the story of Manzanar.
Mastery by George Leonard
I was so glad that someone finally wrote a book about achieving higher levels of excellence.
A PARTIAL LISTING OF RECENT FAVORITE BOOKS:
Emotional Intelligence and Working with Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman
Blink and The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell
The Only Three Questions that Count by Ken Fisher
The Death and Life of Great American Cities by Jane Jacobs
SOME OF THE PEOPLE I ADMIRE:
Leo Buscaglia . Mukhtar Mai . Lee Iacocca . Dr. Laura . John Wooden . Dr. Sally Ride .
Martha Stewart . Peter Ueberroth . Nicholas Kristof . Richard Branson . Steve Jobs . Joe Paterno . Steve Forbes . Simon Winchester . and those who create, build, and make the world a better place.
MOVIES WORTH SEEING AGAIN:
“Red”, Krzysztof Kieslowski (from the Trilogy “Red, White, Blue”.)
“Stripes” (so many good lines. . . and it's a true story!)
“The Mighty”, and “Simon Birch” (illustrating that the idealism of childhood dreams never really goes away; both of these movies were so poignant, and had superb young actors.)
“Love Actually” (I watch it at least once a year.)
“West Side Story” (Jerome Robbins’ choreography is mesmerizing…)
“Charade” (…and Audrey Hepburn is like Robbins’ choreography.)
